Iowa senior running back Paki O’Meara was honored by the Big Ten on Monday, being named the conference’s Special Teams Player of the Week.

In the Hawkeyes’ 37-7 win over Eastern Illinois, O’Meara blocked a Panther punt in the first quarter and returned it 42 yards for an Iowa touchdown to put the Hawkeyes ahead 21-0.

The last time Iowa had the Big Ten’s Special Teams Player of the Week was last year, when defensive end Adrian Clayborn blocked a punt against Penn State, and like O’Meara last weekend, returned it for a Hawkeye score.

Iowa plays Iowa State on Sept. 11 at Kinnick Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Central.
