IOWA CITY, Iowa — Iowa head coach Kirk Ferentz confirmed Wednesday what numerous Hawkeye fans had feared was the case regarding defensive coordinator Norm Parker.

Parker, who was hospitalized prior to the Hawkeyes’ 35-7 victory over Iowa State on Sept. 11 after a setback with diabetes, had his right foot amputated. Ferentz didn’t specifically state when the exact timing of the procedure took place, but did say it happened “about a week-and-a-half” after that game.

In addition, Ferentz announced there wasn’t a set timetable for Parker’s return, but that he was released from the hospital last week, and was in good spirits after the two spoke on Monday.

The amputation was something Ferentz said he would make the entire team aware of on Wednesday during a team meeting, as the team is currently in its bye week before facing No. 18 Michigan on Oct. 16 in Ann Arbor, Mich.

Below is audio in its entirety of Ferentz addressing the matter on Wednesday:
