Iowa kicker Michael Meyer was selected by the Big Ten on Monday as the conference’s Special Teams Player of the Week.

Meyer, who is a true freshman walk-on, made 4-of-5 field goal attempts for the Hawkeyes on Nov. 6 in their 18-13 victory over Indiana. His miss came from 22 yards out late in the first half, but Meyer made kicks from 23, 27, 27, and 42 yards, respectively. The 42-yard field goal in the fourth quarter is a career-long for the Dubuque native.

Meyer is the second Hawkeye player this season to earn the Big Ten’s special teams accolade. The other was senior running back Paki O’Meara after Iowa’s 37-7 win over Eastern Illinois on Sept. 4. This is the sixth time during the 2010 campaign that an Iowa player has garnered a weekly honor from the conference. In addition to both Meyer and O’Meara, the Hawkeyes have had one Offensive Player of the Week this season in senior quarterback Ricky Stanzi, and three Defensive Player of the Week accolades go to junior defensive tackle Mike Daniels, senior defensive end Adrian Clayborn, and junior cornerback Shaun Prater.

Iowa is now 13th in every poll including the BCS Standings released on Sunday. The Hawkeyes’ game at Northwestern on Nov. 13 will be televised nationally on ESPN. Kickoff from Ryan Field in Evanston, Ill., is scheduled for 11 a.m. Central.
