MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — At halftime inside TCF Bank Stadium, the No. 24 Iowa Hawkeyes trail the Minnesota Golden Gophers, 20-17.

The game began with Minnesota winning the toss and receiving the opening kickoff. On that first possession, the Golden Gophers were able to get a 26-yard field goal from kicker Eric Ellestad to go ahead 3-0.

Then came the ensuing kickoff, when Ellestad recovered his own onside kick to set Minnesota up at its own 42-yard line. The Golden Gophers would capitalize with an 11-play touchdown drive capped by a 14-yard scoring run from quarterback MarQueis Gray to go up 10-0.

Iowa would respond on the opening play of the second quarter when quarterback Ricky Stanzi connected with wideout Derrell Johnson-Koulianos on a 7-yard touchdown pass to trim the deficit to 10-7.

After a Stanzi fumble led to another Golden Gopher touchdown, Johnson-Koulianos came back with an 88-yard kickoff return for a touchdown to cut Minnesota’s lead to 17-14.

The two teams would end the first half by exchanging 35-yard field goals.
