The 2011 NFL preseason officially gets underway Thursday. As of Wednesday evening, there are currently 43 former Iowa football players listed on NFL rosters (former Iowa linebacker Jeremiha Hunter is on injured reserve for the Saints following a torn Achilles’ injury he suffered last week). Among those who played in the NFL last season but are still free agents as of Wednesday evening include running back Albert Young, defensive end/linebacker Matt Roth, defensive end Kenny Iwebema and linebacker Abdul Hodge.

(UPDATE: Matt Roth agreed to a one-year deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars on Aug. 11)

Below is a list of this week’s preseason games in the NFL, including which former Iowa players are with which teams. For those in Eastern Iowa, two NFL preseason games will be shown locally Saturday night. KFXA-TV (FOX affilate) will carry the Chicago Bears’ preseason game against the Buffalo Bills, while KGAN-TV (CBS affiliate) will have the Minnesota Vikings’ preseason game against the Tennessee Titans.

There are three nationally televised preseason games this week, including Friday’s contest on FOX between a pair of former Hawkeyes selected in the 2011 NFL Draft. Adrian Clayborn and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers visit the Kansas City Chiefs, who have quarterback Ricky Stanzi.
