Iowa junior quarterback James Vandenberg was selected Monday as the Big Ten’s Offensive Player of the Week.

In the Hawkeyes’ 31-27 victory over Pittsburgh last weekend at Kinnick Stadium, Vandenberg passed for a career-high 399 yards and completed 31-of-48 pass attempts, including 17 of his last 20 throws. He scored the first of Iowa’s four touchdowns on the ground from one yard out, and then proceeded to toss three touchdown passes in the fourth quarter of the Hawkeyes’ comeback win — one to junior wideout Keenan Davis, and the remaining two touchdowns to redshirt freshman Kevonte Martin-Manley.

Vandenberg is the first Hawkeye to receive the honor since former Iowa quarterback Ricky Stanzi garnered the honor last season following a 38-28 win over Michigan.
