The following is a statement issued Wednesday by the Michele and Dan Greenwood, the parents of former Iowa safety Brett Greenwood, who was hospitalized on Sept. 9 after he collapsed while working out at Pleasant Valley High School:

“During this very difficult time for our family, we have been overwhelmed by the tremendous outpouring of support we have received from family, friends, the community, and the Hawkeye Nation. It means a great deal to us to have so many people reaching out to us and telling us that they are praying for Brett.

“Brett continues to fight and make improvements. We would ask that you continue to keep Brett in your thoughts and prayers, now more than ever. We also appreciate everyone respecting our family’s privacy at this time.”
