Former Ball State head coach Billy Taylor was officially named Iowa’s new Director of Men’s Basketball Operations, the UI announced in a release Saturday.

Taylor, who had served the past six seasons coaching at Ball State and was the head coach at Lehigh for five seasons before that, replaces former director Jerry Strom after the latter announced his retirement back in May. He also gets to re-unite with Iowa head coach Fran McCaffery, who was Taylor’s lead recruiter when he played collegiately at Notre Dame and then hired Taylor to his coaching staff during his stint at UNC-Greensboro.

“Billy is someone with tremendous character and will be a great asset to our program,” McCaffery said in a statement.

Among Taylor’s duties at Iowa will be working closely with McCaffery and his current coaching staff, coordinating the Hawkeyes’ travel and carrying out other various day-to-day activities for the program.
