Binns arrested for drunk driving

Posted on 09. Jul, 2010 by in Iowa Football

Iowa junior defensive end Broderick Binns was arrested in Iowa City on charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated early Friday morning.

According to a police report from the University Heights police department, Binns, 20, initially denied consuming any alcohol, before later admitting to “several drinks.” He also was wearing a 21-wristband at the time of his arrest, despite being underage.

The report also revealed that Binns failed field sobriety tests and blew a .097 on the breathalyzer.

“I was very disappointed to learn of the incident involving Broderick Binns,” Iowa head coach Kirk Ferentz said in a statement released Friday morning. “He will, as a result, receive counseling and will attend an educational program. He will also receive some form of suspension and will do community service.

“I still need to get all the facts concerning the incident. But, the matter and punishment will be handled internally.”

Last season, the St. Paul, Minn., native recorded 63 tackles and six sacks for the Hawkeyes, and was one of four starters on defensive line returning this year.

Disappointing. Hopefully he learns from this and doesn’t let it happen again.

You guys really do need to start a rickshaw program for your football players in the offseason. There should be enough fans in Iowa City to accomplish this.
