Iowa placed 10th in preseason Coaches’ Poll

The preseason USA Today/Coaches Poll was released Friday morning, and the Iowa Hawkeyes will start the 2010 season in its top 10.

Iowa comes in ranked 10th nationally in the first preseason poll to be released this month. The AP Poll will be revealed on Aug. 21.

The Hawkeyes are one of four Big Ten teams ranked in the season’s first USA Today/Coaches Poll. Ohio State, who was picked preseason to win the Big Ten, comes in second nationally. Meanwhile, Wisconsin enters ranked 12th, while Penn State comes in at No. 14.

Alabama, who won the 2010 BCS National Championship, comes in as the country’s top-ranked squad in the poll.

Iowa opens its 2010 season on Sept. 4 against Eastern Illinois. In fact, it was also announced Friday that every home game for the 2010 campaign is officially a sell-out.

The Hawkeyes will hold its Kids’ Day event on Aug. 14 at Kinnick Stadium, beginning at 12 p.m. Gates officially open for fans that morning at 11 a.m.
