TUCSON, Ariz. — At halftime inside Arizona Stadium, the No. 9 Iowa Hawkeyes trail the No. 24 Arizona Wildcats, 27-7.

The Hawkeyes got off to a disastrous start. After the Iowa offense was forced to a 3-and-out on its opening series, Arizona’s David Roberts blocked a Ryan Donahue punt, and the Wildcats got the ball at the Hawkeye 8-yard line. Three plays later, Arizona struck when quarterback Nick Foles found David Douglas in the end zone to put the Wildcats up 7-0.

Iowa was driving on its second possession, but a pass from quarterback Ricky Stanzi went off the hands of wideout Marvin McNutt, and was picked off by Arizona cornerback Trevin Wade, who took the football back 85 yards for a Wildcat score. Wade’s second career pick-six of Stanzi gave Arizona a 14-0 lead.

The Wildcats threatened again when the offense returned to the field, but a Nic Grigsby fumble forced by Iowa linebacker Jeff Tarpinian was recovered by the Hawkeyes’ Jeremiha Hunter at the Iowa 7-yard line. After the turnover, the Hawkeyes responded with a 93-yard touchdown drive capped by a four-yard scoring pass from Stanzi to running back Jewel Hampton.

However, Arizona would respond when Travis Cobb returned the ensuing kickoff 100 yards for a Wildcat touchdown to put the lead back at 14 points.

Arizona would get field goals of 22 and 47 yards respectively from kicker Alex Zendejas to extend its lead to 20 points.
