IOWA CITY, Iowa — At halftime inside Kinnick Stadium, the No. 18 Iowa Hawkeyes lead the Ball State Cardinals, 21-0.

Iowa struck on its second series of the day when sophomore running back Adam Robinson rushed for a 1-yard touchdown run to give the Hawkeyes a 7-0 lead.

The score would remain 7-0 entering the second quarter when freshman kicker Michael Meyer missed a 37-yard field goal try. It was the Hawkeyes’ first field goal attempt of the season.

However, the defense would respond for Iowa. Sophomore cornerback Micah Hyde intercepted a pass thrown by Ball State quarterback Keith Wenning, keeping the Cardinals off the scoreboard.

Two possessions later, Iowa scored its second touchdown of the afternoon when quarterback Ricky Stanzi found sophomore wide receiver Keenan Davis for an 8-yard strike. Davis came in that series for junior wide receiver Marvin McNutt, who was injured the prior series.

After a Wenning fumble recovered by senior linebacker Jeremiha Hunter, Stanzi found senior wide receiver Derrell Johnson-Koulianos for a 22-yard touchdown pass with 1:54 remaining in the half. Johnson-Koulianos is currently 15 receptions and 176 receiving yards away from becoming Iowa’s all-time leader in both categories.
