IOWA CITY, Iowa — At halftime inside Kinnick Stadium, the No. 17 Iowa Hawkeyes lead the No. 22 Penn State Nittany Lions, 17-3.
Iowa got the football to begin the game, and marched all the way to Penn State’s 3-yard line before being held to a 20-yard field goal by true freshman kicker Michael Meyer.
After a pair of Nittany Lion 3-and-outs, the Hawkeyes struck again on their third series of the evening when senior quarterback Ricky Stanzi connected on a 9-yard touchdown pass with senior wide receiver Derrell Johnson-Koulianos to make it 10-0 in favor of Iowa.
The Hawkeyes wouldn’t score again until late in the second quarter. Stanzi capped a 68-yard scoring drive with a 1-yard touchdown run on a quarterback sneak to make it 17-0.
However, Penn State managed to score in the final minutes of the half when kicker Collin Wagner connected on a 25-yard field goal to trim the Nittany Lions’ deficit to two touchdowns.
