Iowa junior cornerback Shaun Prater was selected as the Big Ten’s Defensive Player of the Week. The announcement came Monday from the conference.
Prater, as did the entire Iowa secondary for that matter, had a game to remember last weekend in the Hawkeyes’ 37-6 victory over then-No. 5 Michigan State. The Omaha, Neb., native led Iowa in tackles with 10, seven unassisted. He also had a key second quarter interception that halted a potential Spartan scoring drive, and he returned the interception 42 yards before the Hawkeyes scored another touchdown on offense three plays later.
This is the third time this season an Iowa player has collected the defensive accolade. Junior defensive lineman Mike Daniels was co-Big Ten Player of the Week after the Hawkeyes’ 45-0 win over Ball State on Sept. 25, and senior defensive end Adrian Clayborn received the honor outright after Iowa defeated Penn State, 24-3, back on Oct. 2.
The 15th-ranked Hawkeyes travel to Bloomington, Ind., to face the Indiana Hoosiers on Nov. 6. Kickoff is scheduled for 11 a.m. Central, and the game will be aired on the Big Ten Network. It was also announced Monday that Iowa’s game on Nov. 13 at Northwestern will also be an 11 a.m. Central kickoff, and that will be televised by either ESPN or ESPN2.
