A day after falling to Xavier by 13 points, the Iowa Hawkeyes were able to bounce back with a 55-47 victory over Alabama on Saturday at the Paradise Jam in St. Thomas, V.I. With the win, Iowa is now 2-2, and its final game before returning to the mainland will be on Monday against Long Beach State, who earlier in the day defeated St. Peter’s in the other consolation game.

The Hawkeyes got significant contributions from their bench in the contest. Freshman forward Zach McCabe was the team’s leading scorer with 13 points on 3-of-7 shooting, while junior guard Bryce Cartwright added 10 points in the winning effort.

Iowa won the game despite shooting a mere 36 percent from the field, but the Hawkeyes had an enormous edge at the charity stripe, shooting 20-of-32 while the Crimson Tide were just 7-of-9.

The Hawkeyes’ Paradise Jam finale against Long Beach State is scheduled to start on Monday at 2:30 p.m. Central.
