The UI issued a press release on Sunday announcing that all 13 football players admitted to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for Rhabdomyolysis symptoms have now been dismissed.
After five players were initially released on Jan. 28, the release states that six more were discharged on Jan. 29 and the final two players to be released were out of the hospital on Sunday.
“These young men and their families have been through a difficult and trying time. They are under my supervision and watch, and I am truly sorry for what they’ve experienced,” Iowa head coach Kirk Ferentz said in the release. “They trained extremely hard and ended up in the hospital, and there is no indication they did anything wrong. So I’m pleased they are progressing well and I look forward to seeing all of them being back to normal.”
Also mentioned in the release was Iowa athletics director Gary Barta, who spoke publicly on the matter for the first time.
“We obviously are extremely pleased all of our student-athletes have been released from the hospital and can begin the return to their academic, athletic, and personal lives,” Barta said.
