Former Iowa quarterback Ricky Stanzi was selected in the 2011 NFL Draft on Saturday, as he was taken with the 135th overall pick in the fifth round by the Kansas City Chiefs.

Stanzi becomes the first Hawkeye signal-caller to be taken in the NFL Draft since Matt Rodgers was a 12th round pick of the Buffalo Bills in 1992.

The Mentor, Ohio native threw for 25 touchdowns and six interceptions as a senior last year while accumulating a total of 3,004 passing yards and a 64.1 completion percentage. For his Hawkeye career, Stanzi tossed 56 touchdown passes, 31 interceptions and a total of 7,377 yards through the air.

Last season, the Chiefs won the AFC West with a 10-6 record and lost in the wild card round of the NFL playoffs to Baltimore.
