Former Iowa offensive lineman Julian Vandervelde was taken in the fifth round of the 2011 NFL Draft on Saturday after the Philadelphia Eagles took him with the 161st overall pick. Vandervelde was a three-year starter along the offensive line for the Hawkeyes, playing mostly at guard in 37 career starts.

This marks the third consecutive year an offensive lineman from Iowa gets taken in the NFL Draft. Bryan Bulaga and Kyle Calloway were both taken in last year’s draft, while Seth Olsen was picked in the 2009 NFL Draft.

Last year, the Eagles won the NFC East with a 10-6 record, and were knocked out of the playoffs by the Green Bay Packers.
