Former Iowa football player and track athlete Tim Dwight was one of six to have their name called as members of the 2011 Iowa Athletics Hall of Fame class on Friday during a ceremony in Iowa City.
Dwight, a native of Iowa City and product of Iowa City High, headlines a group that also includes former baseball coach Duane Banks, gymnast Keith McCanless, football player and wrestler Sherwyn Thorson, wrestler Joe Williams, and field hockey player Mary Koboldt.
Playing wide receiver for Iowa from 1994-97, Dwight left Iowa as the school’s career leader in touchdown receptions with 21, a record he still possesses, and in receiving yards with 2,271, a mark that was surpassed by Derrell Johnson-Koulianos last season. He also returned five punts for touchdowns during his Hawkeye career and was a consensus All-American as a senior in 1997.
This year’s class will be enshrined on Sept. 3 following Iowa’s regular-season opener against Tennessee Tech.
