Iowa sophomore forward Melsahn Basabe will not participate for the USA U19 squad playing in the 2011 FIBA U19 World Championship being held in Latvia. Basabe revealed the news via Twitter Sunday morning, and a report by CBS Sports’ Jeff Goodman confirmed the Glen Cove, N.Y., native not making the final roster after he participated in the team’s training camp over the weekend in Colorado Springs, Colo.

Basabe was one of seven players invited to the camp to not make the team. He was selected in the third round (14th overall) of last week’s Prime Time League draft by the Culver’s/Iowa City Fitness squad that also features senior guard Matt Gatens and freshman forward Aaron White.

Last season, Basabe led the Hawkeyes in rebounding and blocked shots while starting all 31 of Iowa’s games as a true freshman.
