Iowa senior defensive tackle Thomas Nardo was chosen as the Big Ten’s Defensive Player of the Week on Monday.

In the Hawkeyes’ 45-17 victory over ULM on Sept. 24, Nardo, in just his second career start, recorded a team-high 12 tackles (six solo) and was also credited with two tackles for a loss of yards and half a sack.

Nardo is the first Iowa player to pick up the conference’s defensive honor since cornerback Shaun Prater did so last season following a 37-6 Hawkeye victory over Michigan State.
