Iowa senior guard Matt Gatens was named co-Big Ten Player of the Week along with Purdue forward Robbie Hummel, the conference announced Monday. This marks the first time in his Hawkeye career Gatens has earned the accolade and it marks the first time an Iowa player received the honor since Jake Kelly did back in 2009.

Gatens scored a career-high 33 points for Iowa in its 67-66 win over No. 16 Wisconsin back on Feb. 23, with the performance coming four days after dropping 30 points in a 78-66 victory over Indiana. Although the Hawkeyes lost 65-54 to Illinois on Feb. 26, the Iowa City native scored a game-high 22 points in defeat.

Over the course of the two games this past week, Gatens shot 12-of-16 from 3-point range.

Iowa’s next game is Feb. 29 at Nebraska.
