Iowa incoming freshman center Adam Woodbury will be attending the training camp for the USA Men’s Basketball U18 National Team scheduled to take place June 5-12 in Colorado Springs, Colo.

Woodbury is one of 24 players to be invited to the camp and one of 17 among 2012 high school recruits. Should the Sioux City native make the final 12-player roster to be coached by Florida’s Billy Donovan, he would be taking part in the 2012 FIBA Americas U18 Championship being held June 16-20 in Sao Sebastiaó do Paraiso, Brazil. The team would leave for Brazil on June 13.

Among those invited along with Woodbury were Wisconsin incoming freshman forward Sam Dekker and Michigan State incoming freshman guard Gary Harris. Tennessee’s Jarnell Stokes is the only invitee with collegiate playing experience.

The US squad is one of eight that is slated to participate in the event. The top four finishers at the event will then take part in the FIBA U19 World Championship in 2013.

Woodbury, who is listed at 7-1, 235 pounds, averaged 17 points and 11.6 rebounds per game as a senior at Sioux City East High School last winter.
