Iowa releases 2012 non-conference schedule

The Iowa men’s basketball team released the non-conference portion of its 2012-13 schedule on Wednesday, which includes a slate of 13 regular season games during the months of November and December. There is also an exhibition game the Hawkeyes will play against Quincy on Nov. 4, as well as the return of the Black & Gold Blowout scheduled for Oct. 19 at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
Iowa’s opener will take place Nov. 9 against Texas-Pan American at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. Following another home contest Nov. 12 against Keno Davis’ Central Michigan Chippewas, the Hawkeyes will play games against Howard Nov. 15 and Gardner-Webb Nov. 17 before traveling to Mexico to take part in the Cancun Challenge. Iowa will play Western Kentucky on Nov. 20 and then either Wichita State or DePaul on Nov. 21 at the Moon Palace Resort. Western Kentucky and Wichita State both played in the NCAA tournament last season.
When the Hawkeyes return from Cancun, they’ll play their only true road game before conference play on Nov. 27, when it travels to Blacksburg, Va., to play Virginia Tech as part of the Big Ten/ACC Challenge.
Iowa then plays home games Dec. 1 against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Dec. 4 against South Dakota before playing its annual intrastate showdown with Iowa State on Dec. 7, which will be held at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. The Cyclones reached the third round of the NCAA tournament last spring, losing to eventual national champion Kentucky.
After the UI’s finals week, the Hawkeyes will play Northern Iowa on Dec. 15 as part of the inaugural Big Four Classic being held at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines.
The non-conference portion of Iowa’s schedule concludes with a pair of home games Dec. 19 against South Carolina State and Dec. 22 against Coppin State.
Below is the entire non-conference schedule. No times have been released yet. Iowa’s Big Ten schedule will be released later this summer.
