The 2012-13 Iowa men’s basketball schedule is now complete after the Big Ten released its conference schedule Thursday.

Iowa opens Big Ten play with as brutal a stretch imaginable, starting with preseason favorite Indiana visiting Carver-Hawkeye Arena on Dec. 31. The Hawkeyes will then play their only games against Michigan and Michigan State this season — at Michigan on Jan. 6, and at home against Michigan State on Jan. 10. Three days later, Iowa plays at Northwestern.

The most notable game on the Hawkeyes’ Big Ten slate comes Jan. 19. On what will be the 20th anniversary of Chris Street’s death, Iowa will play at Carver-Hawkeye Arena against Wisconsin, a team the Hawkeyes beat twice last season.

Following what will be an emotional evening in Iowa City, the Hawkeyes play two straight on the road — at Ohio State on Jan. 22 and at Purdue on Jan. 27. The meeting with the Buckeyes will be the only one during the regular season.

After a home contest against Penn State on Jan. 31, Iowa will play at Minnesota on Super Bowl Sunday, then travel to Wisconsin on Feb. 6. Northwestern then pays a visit to Carver-Hawkeye Arena Feb. 9 and the Hawkeyes play Penn State again in State College on Feb. 14.

Iowa plays Minnesota again Feb. 17 at home, then travels to Nebraska on Feb. 21. The Hawkeyes play three of their final four Big Ten games at Carver-Hawkeye Arena, with the lone road game in that stretch coming March 2 at Indiana. Purdue visits Iowa City on Feb. 27, then Iowa plays its only regular season game against Illinois on March 5.

The regular season finale against Nebraska on March 9 will be Senior Day for forward Eric May, the lone senior player on scholarship for the Hawkeyes.

The Big Ten Tournament starts on March 14 at the United Center in Chicago, Ill. Iowa has an exhibition game on Nov. 4 against Quincy at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. The official start to the regular season is Nov. 9, when Iowa plays host to Texas-Pan American.
