White, Marble named third team all-Big Ten

Iowa sophomore forward Aaron White and junior guard Devyn Marble received all-Big Ten honors Monday as both players were selected to the conference’s third team.

White was named third team by the media and honorable mention by the coaches, while Marble was one of the coaches’ choices for third team and was selected as honorable mention from the media. Marble currently leads the Hawkeyes in scoring, averaging 14.1 points per game, while White averages 13.6 points per contest and leads Iowa in rebounding with an average of 6.2 boards per game.

In addition to honors for both White and Marble, senior forward Eric May was chosen as Iowa’s representative for the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award.

Other awards handed out by the Big Ten on Monday included Michigan guard Trey Burke being named the league’s Player of the Year, while Indiana guard Victor Oladipo was selected as the Big Ten’s Defensive Player of the Year. Both players were unanimous first-team selections by both the coaches and media.

Also, Wisconsin head coach Bo Ryan was named Coach of the Year following the Badgers’ 12-6 Big Ten campaign, Michigan State guard Gary Harris was Freshman of the Year and Sixth Man of the Year honors went to Indiana forward Will Sheehey.

Iowa plays Northwestern in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament on March 14 at the United Center in Chicago, Ill. The game will start 25 minutes following the conclusion of the Nebraska/Purdue contest that same night and will be televised nationally on ESPN2.
