Stiffer competition awaited the Iowa Hawkeyes in Paris, but they were able to move to 3-0 on their six-game European tour following an 82-60 victory over the AMW All-Stars on Friday in what was the first of four contests the Hawkeyes are playing in France before returning to Iowa City.

Only one change was made to the starting lineup from what it was against the London Lions on Aug. 14, as sophomore Adam Woodbury started at center in place of junior Gabe Olaseni and began Friday’s game alongside seniors Devyn Marble and Melsahn Basabe and juniors Aaron White and Josh Oglesby. White led the charge with a team-high 18 points on 8-of-10 shooting and five rebounds, while Basabe contributed with 14 points and seven boards, six of which came at the offensive end of the floor.

Also scoring in double-figures for the third straight game was freshman guard Peter Jok, who came off the bench Friday and finished with 13 points.

Marble only scored two points on 1-of-7 shooting, but also tallied a team-high seven assists and played 24 minutes Friday, the most of any Hawkeye player. Woodbury led Iowa in rebounding with nine boards.

As a team, the Hawkeyes struggled shooting from 3-point range, going just 2-of-18 from behind the arc. They also committed 20 turnovers while only posting 17 assists. However, Iowa also converted on 12 of its 13 free-throw attempts and held a 48-14 edge in the paint, as well as a 23-8 advantage on second-chance scoring. The AMW All-Stars were also held to just five points total in the fourth quarter after trimming Iowa’s lead to 62-55 after three periods.

“Once we started running, I thought Whitey in particular did a fabulous job getting up in the passing lanes,” Iowa head coach Fran McCaffery said during a postgame interview with Hawkeye Sports. “Our rebounding was tremendous. It enabled us to run and we limited them to one shot.”

The Hawkeyes will stay in Paris for their next exhibition contest, which is Saturday at 1:30 p.m. Central against St. Quentin.
