Not even 24 hours after losing an overtime game in the final seconds, the Iowa Hawkeyes found themselves in a tussle during their final European exhibition Tuesday before being able to pull through with a 92-78 victory over Fos-Ouest Basket in Fos-sur-Mer, France. With the win, Iowa completed its six-game tour with a 5-1 record.

For the first time during Iowa’s trip, head coach Fran McCaffery opted to start with a smaller lineup with forwards Aaron White and Melsahn Basabe starting in the post, freshman guard Peter Jok and sophomore forward Jarrod Uthoff out on the wings and senior Devyn Marble running the point.

Jok led the Hawkeyes with a team-high 17 points on 5-of-12 shooting and was one of four players to finish in double figures scoring. White shot a perfect 7-of-7 from the floor, tallying 16 points and five rebounds. Basabe finished with a double-double of 13 points on 6-of-11 shooting and 10 rebounds and Marble compiled 12 points, six rebounds and four assists in the win. Half of Marble’s points came at the foul line, where he shot 6-of-8.

Iowa fell behind early and even found itself trailing 45-43 at halftime before surging in the second half. Not only was the team able to stay hot shooting over the course of the game, but it also limited its number of turnovers in the second half and finished with 18 giveaways. In addition, the Hawkeyes were also able to shoot 15-of-20 from the free-throw line after going just 8-of-14 on Monday, while Fos-Ouest Basket was 17-of-35 from the charity stripe.

With this trip complete, the Hawkeyes return to Iowa City and the players start fall semester classes next week along with the rest of the UI student body. Iowa’s first practice for the 2013-14 season is scheduled for Sept. 27, the earliest possible date Division-I teams are officially allowed to start.
