The Iowa Hawkeyes are ranked 25th in this week’s USA Today Coaches Poll, marking the first time since the 2005-06 season Iowa has cracked the top 25 of either that or the AP Poll, where the Hawkeyes are currently ranked 26th.
Prior to Monday, Iowa’s last appearance in the Coaches Poll came in its final rankings following the 2006 NCAA Tournament, with the Hawkeyes being ranked 23rd at the time. That season, Iowa went 25-9 and won the Big Ten Tournament before losing in the first round of the NCAA Tournament as a No. 3 seed to 14th-seeded Northwestern State.
As for the AP Poll, Iowa received 122 votes, 22 fewer than No. 25 Marquette. Iowa State and Creighton were the only teams previously unranked to climb into that poll’s top 25 on Monday.
Iowa plays Penn on Nov. 22 at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. Tip-off is at 6 p.m. Central and the game will be televised nationally on the Big Ten Network.
