IOWA CITY, Iowa — Prior to a regularly scheduled press conference involving Iowa head coach Fran McCaffery on Tuesday, Iowa athletics director Gary Barta spoke with the local media regarding the Big Ten’s decision earlier in the day to suspend McCaffery from the 20th-ranked Hawkeyes’ game Jan. 9 against Northwestern and additionally fine the UI $10,000 for violating the conference’s Sportsmanship Policy during Iowa’s game on Jan. 5 at No. 4 Wisconsin. McCaffery was ejected from the game against the Badgers after he received a pair of technical fouls from arguing with officials during the second half’s under-12 timeout.
